Lost in Luzon Part 1: Subic Freeport Zone

28 October, 2013 - I took a trip from Quezon City to Subic Freeport Zone to test the Picanto's top speed and highway fuel economy. The route to Subic involves the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) northbound and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) southbound. While on SCTEX, I was able to do a top speed of 185 kph. The video below was shot at around 160 kph.

Upon arrival at my hotel, I checked the Picanto's trip computer, which logged in a trip distance of 142.4 km, a fuel consumption rate of 7.1 l/100 (14.08 km/l), and a travel time of 1 hour 34 minutes. Time to drop off the bags and go sightseeing.

I took the trip back to Makati using the same route, but maintaining a maximum speed of 120 kph to improve the fuel economy. Upon my arrival, the trip computer read a total trip distance of 332.7 km, approx fuel range of 162 km, a fuel consumption of 6.2 l/100 (16.13 km/l), and a total travel time of 5 hours 9 minutes. Overall, I'm completely satisfied with the Picanto's performance on long-distance trips.

Next destination: Baguio.
